Have you ever wondered what goes on behind the curtain of a fashion show just moments before models strut the runway in the designer’s latest collections? Yeah, us too.

Hermès has allowed us to go inside and experience the excitement that precedes a fashion show with an online film that puts the spotlight on Hermès’ Men’s new Spring/Summer 2021 collection, created by Véronique Nichanian.

During the seven-minute video, Nichanian teamed up with Cyril Teste (the film’s director) who captured the brand’s image so convincingly in this new context.

The live performance, entitled Hors-Champ, was streamed online on Hermes.com and as thousands of industry professionals and loyal consumers tuned in, an immediate line-up of crisp silhouettes, carefree creations and lightweight fabrics.

“This collection is smaller than usual because we were cut off from our usual means of production. I also selected eighteen silhouettes where I normally select around forty, partly due to the nature of the performance. I said to Cyril: “Here is my collection, do with it what you will.” I brought him my work, he did his work, and together we created this moment,” says Véronique Nichanian.

Due to the lack of production access, the collection consisted of lesser looks than usual. In the film, we saw a total of 18 looks that were embedded with a carefree expression of lightness and simplicity. However, 26 looks were photographed.

There was a healthy dose of refreshing tones such as pale blues, Mediterranean blues, almond greens, stone, gravel, off-white and a fluorescent yellow, that took in the form of poplin shirts, relaxed trousers, straight jackets, pullovers and suits.

To top it off, accessories completed the looks. We spotted sports bag in Evercolour calfskin and Togo calfskin, the Slim d’Hermès watch, pendants in palladium metal and horn, and belts in strap canvas and bridle leather and sandals in calfskin.
