Shangri-La London confirms opening date
Set to welcome guests on May 6 2014
After numerous delays, the opening date of the highly-anticipated Shangri-La Hotel at the Shard in London has finally been confirmed.
Set to host its first arrivals on May 6 2014, the Shangri-La London Hotel, located at Western Europe's tallest skyscraper The Shard, designed by Renzo Piano, will take up levels 34 to 52.
Tapping into its unique height feature, each of the hotel's rooms will contain floor-to-ceiling windows, providing guests with sweeping views of the city.
Given the angled shape of the building, each of the rooms will boast a separate layout and design. Standard design features throughout the hotel include marble bathrooms furnished with heated floors, Acqua di Parma amenities as well as mirrors with built-in television screens. In September, the hotel will open three signature suites; the Shangri-La suite, located on level 39, will offer its visitors 180-degree scenes of the capital city.
Amongst the food and beverage outlets, Gong, a bar on level 52 designed by award-winning Hong Kong interior designer André Fu is destined to be the highest bar in London. The same level will also feature a 24-hour gym, and a infinity pool. According to Fu: "...at night, the pool will be part of the bar. It's high-tech, modern and pretty dramatic - which is what you need if it's going to become a destination experience."
Rates start from £450 per night. Bookings for rooms, restaurants and events will be available from March 17.
