The White House hits a social media hat-trick with Snapchat, following the recent launches of Twitter and Facebook accounts...

The White House has launched its Snapchat account! Designed primarily to give an insight into the inner workings during the run-up to President Barack Obama's speech to Congress, the account aims to connect to the younger demographic.

"There are over 100 million daily active Snapchat users, and over 60 percent of American smartphone users between the ages of 13 and 34 use the platform," the White House said in a statement. "In light of the number of Americans who use the service to consume news and share with their friends, the White House is joining Snapchat to engage this broad cross-section of the population in new and creative ways."

This social media approach comes in response to the prevalence of its use in contemporary times and the White House aims to provide the American people with a multitude of ways to engage with their government.
