Whatsapp doubles active users with over 50 billion messages sent and received daily

CEO Jan Koum announced on Monday that the mobile messaging application has now 430 million active users, which is up from 200 million in April 2013

WhatsApp Inc. was founded in 2009 by American Brian Acton and Ukrainian Jan Koum (also the CEO), both former employees of Yahoo! and is based in Mountain View, Santa Clara County, California. The messaging app is available for Google Android, BlackBerry OS, Apple iOS, selected Nokia Series 40, Symbian, selected Nokia Asha platforms and the Microsoft Windows Phone.

Private messaging is increasing in popularity day-by-day, especially via social networks such as Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and Snapchat. Whatsapp's active user base and daily message volume has gone from 200 million in April 2013 to 300 million users in August 2013 and then to 430 million in January 2014 with 50 billion messages sent/received per day.
