Stars vs. Hearts: Twitter changes like button

Like it or hate it, it's here to stay

Facebook has it, YouTube has it, and now Twitter has it's heart set too

In a move to gain universal appeal and align with the rest of the social media world, Twitter has dropped its star button in favour of a more generic heart button. The shock move came as a way for twittersphere users to 'like' rather than 'favourite' posts. But with the unannounced change taking instant effect, Twitter users were left wondering whether there was an actual difference between the two buttons. If online dissent is any indication, then the answer is yes.

"You might like a lot of things, but not everything can be your favorite," explained Twitter Product Manager Akarshan Kumar. "We want to make Twitter easier and more rewarding to use, and we know that at times the star could be confusing, especially to newcomers."

With user growth stuttering recently, we can expect to see more similar revamps from Twitter in the near future.
