Queen Elizabeth II posts her first tweet

Royal tweeting

On Friday, Queen Elizabeth II made history in the world of social media by sending her first tweet – marking the first message posted by or on behalf of a reigning British monarch

Looking elegant in a blue dress coat and matching hat, the 88-year old grandmother of Prince William and Prince Harry joined the world of 21st century social media at the Science Museum in London during an information technology gallery opening yesterday.

The special tweet contained Queen Elizabeth II personal sign-off, 'Elizabeth R.', and was posted on the @BritishMonarchy account, and read, "It is a pleasure to open the Information Age exhibition today at the @ScienceMuseum and I hope people will enjoy visiting. Elizabeth R,". With the tweet having already been retweeted at least 18,000 times since Friday.
