Mark Zuckerberg to donate 99% of Facebook stake to charity
Today, Facebook founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg published an open letter in which he and his wife, Priscilla Chan, announced their intention to donate 99% of their Facebook shares to charity.
Addressed to their newborn daughter Max, who was born in November, the letter is accompanied with an announcement stating their cause: "It's a world where our generation can advance human potential and promote equality... We are committed to doing our small part to help create this world for all children. We will give 99% of our Facebook shares — currently about $45 billion — during our lives to join many others in improving this world for the next generation."
The plans to proceed with the deal look set to take place in 2016, following Zuckerberg's return to work after two-months paternity leave.
