Apple introduce the iPad Air 2, iPad mini 3 and the new iMac
Super thin devices and mega megapixels
A few hours ago Apple's headquarters in Cupertino once again welcomed a crowd of guests to debut new tech – this time the new iPad and iMacs. The all new iPad Air 2 is 18% thinner than previous models at 6.1mm thin and weighs in at just 0.96 pounds.
To create the new, super-thin silhouette of the iPad Air 2, Apple first redesigned the Retina display, fusing what had been three layers into one. The new display provides more ability for vivid colours and greater contrast. The screen also features an antireflective coating, giving the new iPad Air 2 the least reflective display of any tablet in the world.
"iPad is everywhere. It’s transforming the way we work, the way we learn, the way we play, and it’s transforming the way we communicate," Tim Cook stated. Both iPads also have an 8 MP iSight camera that can shoot a 1080p video. You can take up to 43 MP panorama and burst mode photos, as well as Timelapse, like on the iPhone.
Along with the sleek new design, the iPad 2 features a new chip, the A8X, that delivers substantially better CPU and graphics performance than its predecessor. Ensuring that with its 64-bit desktop-class architecture, the iPad Air 2 is as powerful as many personal computers. The new device also boasts a 10-hour battery life. Touch ID technology provides a password in the form of your own personal digit, and the new iSight camera is the iPad's greatest camera to date.
Meanwhile, Apple's new 27‑inch iMac comes with a Retina 5K display, which has four times as many pixels as the standard 27‑inch iMac display. The tech giant said tonight that it worked tirelessly to develop a display with the performance to light up 14.7 million pixels, on one display, reducing energy consumption while maintaining Apple's high standard for brightness, and advancing image quality for the most striking contrast ever.
Phil Schiller, Apple's senior vice president of worldwide marketing said, "There has never been a desktop display like this," – making it the world's highest resolution display.
Inside, the new iMac comes with a quad-core Intel Core processor available at up to 4.0GHz, the latest AMD graphics, an advanced Fusion Drive, and Thunderbolt 2 – suffice to say there’s a very powerful Mac behind all those impressive pixels.
