Instagram launches five new filters with app update
For the iOS version 6.4.0
After delighting Instagram addicts worldwide with two new filters – Mayfair and Willow – in 2012, the Facebook-owned social media site has upped the ante for 2014, and debuted not two, but five new filters for its iOS version 6.4.0 update.
The creative platform recently bypassed Twitter, drawing in 300 million monthly users.
The official statement from Instagram sharing the happy news read: "Photography trends have evolved, and the capabilities of the camera on your phone have vastly improved. We’ve seen tremendous creativity within the community, not only in the moments they share, but in the time spent carefully composing and editing photos and videos to bring out emotions and make them beautiful."
Arguably Instagram are debuting new filter capabilities to address the fact that many of its users to external apps – such as VSCO Cam – to edit pictures, as the ones on offer within the app get tiresome.
The new photo-editing hues – which Instagram have stated are their "best yet" – are called Slumber, Crema, Ludwig, Aden and Perpetua. As part of the new app update, the platform has also changed the way the filters are displayed – and now, with the new update, when you go to apply a filter to your photo, each filter icon on the bottom now displays a blurred preview of your photo with its effect applied. This means that one of the world's toughest questions: "Which filter shall I use?" – will be a whole lot easier to answer, since each photo will appear with each filter applied as a sneak-peek at the bottom of the screen.
Rather wonderfully the new update also allows you to organise the filters according to your favourites and hide the filters that you rarely use. Genius.
