Fitness wars

An app whereby physical actions are input as data into an easily-readable health report to help you better gauge your own daily activity – and hopefully increase your daily dose

Fitness tech is only on the up, and it's time for Internet market leader Google to flex its muscle.

Enter, Google Fit. The app, launching for mobile and computer-based platforms this week, makes use of existing sensors in Android devices to track when you walk, run, bike, or do anything active that requires movement.

The actions are then input as data into an easily-readable health report to help you better gauge your own daily activity – and hopefully increase your daily dose. Other than by phone, Google Fit is also compatible with pre-existing fitness devices and apps such as Strava, Withings, and Runkeeper, which guarantees accurate fitness measurements in one convenient location.

Google Fit is available now for free on Google Play for devices running Android 4.0 and above
