Facebook is grappling with competition from Snapchat and new Japanese app Line, as the latter two continue to grow in popularity, Facebook has had two swings, and two misses, at this photo-uploader market. Not including its failed attempt to buy up Snapchat, which fell through. 

As part of its bid to get back in with the cool-crew, Facebook has plans to pilot a new photo uploader that will be highly customisable. With functions such as text, swipeable filters and re-sizeable emojis. Details about how this pilot phase will be rolled out, and what the plans are beyond that are still under wraps.
