Big news came from yesterdays NIPSC Conference in Lake Tahoe: Facebook will be opening a laboratory to develop artificial intelligence

Facebook shared its plans for an Artificial Intelligence lab yesterday at the NIPSC Conference in Lake Tahoe. Following this news it also announced that Yann Lecun, a professor of computer science at NYU, would be leading this venture along with other deep learning and machine learning scientists.

Lecun and his team explained that the Facebook's new laboratory will be designed to "reach the ambitious, long-term goal of bringing about major advances in Artificial Intelligence."  

Facebook and the New York University's Center for Data Science will partner up to carry out research in data science, machine learning and Artificial Intelligence. Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg explains "Our primary goal is to use new approaches in the study of artificial intelligence to make sense of all the content that is exchanged by the people. So we can generate new ideas about the world, to answer people's questions. "
