As the magazine world deals with an uneasy first half, Condé Nast seems to be tightening the reigns on the company

One of the largest publishing houses is now on high alert after having choppy first and second quarters, causing the company to reevaluate its budgets across its wide variety of titles.

While Condé Nast declined to comment, a source close the matter has said that it's asking its publications that are not hitting their internal projections to start "correcting" their budgets and that the tightening up will effect all the magazines at the company, regardless of their results.

With less cash flowing through, advertisers have pulled back on pages, leaving Condé a "couple of points below plan," according to a Condé source.

So far the company's top performers are Architectural Digest, Glamour and Condé Nast Traveler while Vogue and Vanity Fair are said to be have had a rough second quarter.
