Apple has been granted a patent for solar cells to be embedded underneath touchscreens such as those used in its Macbook trackpad, iPhone, iPad or Apple Watch display products...

Technology giant Apple has been given the green light for a revolutionary new patent – which could change the way we use mobile phones forever. The iPhone creator submitted the patent for solar cells to be embedded underneath touchscreens, such as those used in its iconic smartphone, Macbook trackpad, iPad and the most recent – Apple Watch. 

According to the U.S patent, the solar cells would be hidden under the device's screen, enabling the iPhone or Apple Watch to constantly recharge its batteries throughout the day – potentially meaning the end of charging cables.
