Continuing its surge forward in the world of wearable technology, Apple has now been awarded a patent for a head-mounted display, releasing an image of its proposed design

A new headset design which has recently been unveiled by Apple appears to be similar to the Facebook-owned Oculus Rift, with a display created for both wired and WiFi connectivity, meaning it should be able to connect to Apple TV, iPhones, iPads and more. It aims to also display 3D images.

The patent doesn't descriptively mention the screen resolution of the device, but it does state that the "distance between a user's eyes and the display generation components and the size or resolution of the displayed image is equivalent to watching media in a movie theatre, for example, five meters from a large screen."

Apple is remaining quiet on the release date for the new headset, but with Facebook investing heavily in its aforementioned Oculus Rift, the tech-world should anticipate a product coming out soon...
