Multi-talented Vanessa Mae is set to compete at the Sochi Winter Games next month, revealing her proficiency on the slopes as well as the studio

Better known as an acclaimed classical-pop violinist, Vanessa-Mae will switch her musical bow for a pair of skis next month to become the third person ever to represent tropical Thailand at the Winter Olympics, being held in Sochi in Russia.

A British citizen, the 35-year-old actually qualifies to compete through her natural father, however she was brought up in England when her mother remarried a Briton.

"National Olympic Committee of Thailand has already made a decision to send Kanet Sucharitakul as the male athlete and Vanessa-Mae as the female athlete," confirms Varin Tansuphasiri, deputy secretary-general of Olympic Committee of Thailand, continuing, "We are currently coordinating with the International Ski Federation to announce the name of the other contestants on their official website."

Multitalented Vanessa-Mae has previously sold over 10 million albums yet has been skiing since she was 4-years-old.

The Sochi Games run from February 7-23
