Nike's LED basketball court in partnership with Kobe Bryant
House of Mamba
To celebrate Nike Basketball's summer-long 'Rise' campaign, the sportswear giant has unveiled the brand new House of Mamba – a state-of-the-art basketball facility in Shanghai, aptly named after Kobe Bryant or 'The Black Mamba' who will be heavily involved in the new project. The first court of its kind, the new facility will bring graphics, video, and player-tracking to life using motion-tracking and a reactive LED visualisation. The technology will allow for training, guidance and challenge the skill set of the Rise players.
"Each basketball player has the wish of making progress every day. They are looking forward to Nike providing them with various opportunities to prove their potential. This year's Rise is a new platform. Even you're a beginner. Nike will help those who aspire to improve basketball performance realize the journey of rising to the top this summer," said Simon Pestridge, VP brand marketing for Nike in Greater China. "In the meantime, Nike will launch the first social basketball reality show in Greater China to inspire players to get out on the court, make progress and break through."
Cleveland Cavaliers player and basketball icon LeBron James chose 30 players representing 27 different cities last week for the next leg of the Rise campaign. These players will be put through their paces in the new high-tech facility – undergoing a variety of drills, all of which are based Kobe Bryant's own training and adapted specifically for the special new court.
Nike athletes LeBron James and Kobe Bryant will visit six cities in Greater China to help these young basketball players realise their journey of rising to the top.
After James's tour, Bryant, will become the next mentor for Rise in the intermediary heat. From July 31 to August 4, Bryant will stay in Shanghai to bring to the players for five days, and select 10 players from 30 for the final.
The final will be held at Wukesong Basketball Park in Beijing on August 16. The three winners will be picked up from the final and participate in the Nike World Basketball Festival September 5-7 in Barcelona, Spain. The multi-phased campaign will be live on the Internet as the first social basketball reality show in Greater China to inspire more young people with a passion for basketball.
