First look: Nike Air Max 97 by Riccardo Tisci
As part of the 30th anniversary celebrations of the Air Max, Nike is set to launch the new NikeLab Air Max 97 Mid, designed in collaboration with fashion designer Riccardo Tisci. "The Air Max 97 had huge influence and impact on Italian culture," said the former creative head of Givenchy. "The Air Max 97 is an iconic, young shoe of the 90s. At the time I was involved with DJs and music, and in the clubs the people leading the big waves were wearing Air Max. That period has a lot of history. It was the first meeting of sportswear and fashion."
The monochromatic NikeLab Air Max 97 Mid x R.T. is created using both synthetic leather and suede and features a mid-cut, white outsole and for further functionality, a hidden pocket on the tongue. Rounding off the aesthetic is the gold Nike logo on the side as well as a similar embossed heel logo. "I gave it more height, because I think its much more 'street', it's typical of me," said Tisci. "It's super-honest and super-classic. When things are very honest, they are modelled forever."
The NikeLab Air Max 97 Mid x R.T. will be available on March 26 at NikeLab.com. Also, making waves is the Nike Pro hijab.
