Germany takes title of 2014 FIFA World Cup Champions
Don't cry for me Argentina
Yesterday evening, around the mighty Maracana stadium in Rio de Janeiro, fans stood in celebration and despair as Germany scored the only goal in the 2014 FIFA World Cup final.
As celebrities from David Beckham, Gerard Butler, Rihanna and Gisele Bündchen – who presented the World Cup trophy – watched the match among the fans from around the world. Bringing the game to an end, the young Mario Gotze brought his fellow Germans to victory, scoring in the 113th minute of the high-intensity match.
At the end of the match, disappointed Argentinian fans wept while Lionel Messi stepped up with a heavy heart – alongside Germany's goalkeeper Manuel Neuer, the recipient of the Golden Glove – to receive the Golden Ball for the tournament's best player.
Now, while Germany celebrates their glorious victory, Messi and his team can start to think about the next World Cup which will take place in Russia in four years time.
