The glamorous Ghantoot Racing & Polo Club event
British Polo Day kicked off with a VIP black-tie evening event at the Ghantoot Racing & Polo Club, marking the start of the 2015 Global Series. Emirati and Indian royalty were among the guests who arrived pitch side, their carriages took the form of Land Rovers, the event's official sponsor, as they prepared for an evening of British themed but Abu Dhabi set revelry from the blooming pop-up Harrods garden party, to the numerous polo matches between the British Exiles, the home Ghanntoot team and the rest of the world teams ending with elegant dining courtesy of Goucho, and a charity auction.
Teams fought for the win across a number of games including the Brompton bicycle polo match, a camel polo match and the ultimate prize – the British Polo Day Plate, which was ultimately won by the triumphant home Ghantoot team.
After the refined three-course dinner, which was enjoyed on the Ghantoot Racing & Polo CLub terraces overlooking the pitch, Colonel Simon Ledger raised his gavel to start the evening's charity auction for the benefit of WAHA and Help for Heroes.
