The new indoor and outdoor skatepark by Glifberg+Lykke and Cebra
The igloo-shaped dome building houses a 4,500-square-metre concrete skatepark, which offers both indoor and outdoor skating facilities as well as street basketball, parkour and bouldering. Glifberg+Lykke worked alongside expert BMXers and skateboarders, to create the new skatepark, which mirrors some of the street obstacles associated with the sports, including ditches, banks, and handrails. A climbing wall is also housed within the dome, that appears as if it is "growing out of the concrete landscape like a mushroom".
"StreetDome forms one continuous and varied spatial course, which gives Scandinavia a modern street sport arena with unique features and possibilities," said CEBRA. "The project started out almost ten years ago as an initiative by local activist and chairman of the SkateCity association Morten Hansen, whose vision was to create a new cultural hub that incorporates a vast area for activity and recreation."
