British Polo Day returns for its sixth year in Dubai and seventh in Abu Dhabi
Divot stomping shoes at the ready...
One of the cornerstone events of the UAE's equine calendar is approaching, the invitation only – British Polo Day, to coincide with the celebrations of the 20th Anniversary of the Dubai World Cup Races. Buro 24/7 has all the details of the very British affair, which will be taking place in Abu Dhabi, followed by Dubai, in a week of glamorous receptions, good sportsmanship and philanthropy.
Kicking off proceedings will be the British Polo Day Abu Dhabi, March 21, held at the Ghantoot Racing & Polo Club which is still buzzing from the recent appearance of HRH Prince Harry for the Sentebale Polo Cup.
The event's schedule includes a black tie reception, a traditional game of camel polo – the Hackett Camel Polo Cup – followed by the eagerly-anticipated Land Rover Trophy between the British Exiles and the home team Ghantoot, who are keen to hold on to the title. All taking place on the pristine private royal pitch, belonging to His Highness Sheikh Falah Bin Zayed al Nahyanat.
After guests have enjoyed a sporting day pitch-side, stomping divots, they can enjoy a three-course meal provided by Gaucho, followed by a charity auction for the benefit of WAHA (Women and Health Alliance) and Help for Heroes, which promises some luxury treats that are up for grabs for the highest bidders.
A week later, on March 27, the original British Polo Day Dubai returns to its roots at Dubai Polo & Equestrian Club, generously hosted by the Habtoor family. Where 500 VIP guests will enjoy a day of camel, Brompton bicycle and traditional polo. The tournaments will see sporting competition between age old rivals Eaton and Harrow schools as well as Oxford and Cambridge universities and also impressive displays from the elite Cavalry and Guards Regiments of the British Army.
Tom Hudson, Co-Founder of British Polo Day: "We are delighted that the British Polo Day series has become a global platform that celebrates the history and heritage of polo whilst also raising significant amounts for good causes. We began in the UAE in 2009 and always feel that this is the home of British Polo Day and that the success of the event is no small part due to the vision and spirit in the UAE. We are also proud to be working with so many of the world's best brands to deliver an unrivalled experience for our guests."
Partners for the event include headliners; Land Rover as well as Hackett London, Royal Salute, Jaeger-LeCoultre, Taittinger, Abercrombie & Kent, Billionaire.com, Justerini & Brooks and Brompton, ensuring that attendees experience a truly enjoyable day.
British Polo Days are invitation only events. The general public can attend British Polo Day Dubai and watch pitchside as normal at the Dubai Polo & Equestrian Club by paying AED 150 per car on arrival
