The AED1 billion Venice-style canal project announced in Ras Al Khaimah

A slice of Italy

Work will start this month on building a AED1 billion Venice-inspired canal project in Ras Al Khaimah (RAK), which will coincide with Falcon Island. Discover the details here...

Chinese firm – The Harbour Engineering Company – has won the $40 million contract to build the marine and infrastructure works for Falcon island and an ambitious AED1 billion canal project inspired by the water systems in Venice. The canal project will include 150 villas and mansions, as well as a super-luxurious private beach.

The general manager from Al Hamra Real Estate has described it as: "A little piece of Venice in the Middle East. Imagine waking up to the soothing sounds of waves hitting the beach or the chance to take in the breath taking sea views that stretch out over the Arabian Gulf, all from your own private beach. Fast forward to the evening and picture yourself enjoying a relaxing evening stroll along a palm tree-lined canal, passing through majestic parks, along boardwalks, and the serenity of your own secluded havens."

The Italian-themed canal will split the greatly anticipated Falcon Island in two, with plans for the island to be totally powered by solar technology and the use of hybrid district cooling systems will control temperatures. Work for this latest addition to the project will start this month and have the same completion date as Falcon Island – October 2016.
