The world's best and biggest place for a picnic
Who's bringing the potato salad?
Created by brothers Frank and Patrik Riklin, the giant picnic blanket installation, appropriately named BIGNIK, has already had 1500 visitors venturing to the site.
The creative duo started collecting reclaimed red-and-white textiles such as blankets, curtains, and towels back in 2012, then sewing them into 15-by-15-foot modules they attached the pieces to create a larger blanket using velcro. Each Summer, the glorious blanket is unpacked from storage and assembled with the help of volunteers.
For 2014, the blanket already is already a little over 3.5 acres – with the designers stating this is only 4 per cent of their goal. By 2040, the aim is for the blanket to be completed, covering a space that's the size of 100 football fields.
