The World Photography Organisation has announced the shortlist for the final of the Sony World Photography Awards 2015, which is considered as the world's largest photography contest

The annual Sony World Photography Awards take place in London and also includes an exhibition of the winners and shortlist, comprising of hundreds of photographs expertly curated at Somerset House. The prestigious awards ceremony is broken into four sections of Open, Professional, Youth and Mobile Phone, which are then divided again into a number categories and recognise the world's best contemporary photography from the last year.  

Welcoming topics across all genres from photojournalism, fine art and commercial photography, current affairs, nature and wildlife, arts and culture, portraiture, contemporary issues, sport, landscape, still life, lifestyle, architecture and many more. The winner of the competition will be awarded many opportunities and exposure along with $30,000 and the latest Sony digital photography equipment.

This year the organisation received the highest number of submissions in its eight-year history with 17,444 images being entered from 171 countries, take a look at a few of the shortlisted entries below:
