Dubai's RTA to upgrade the city with 35 more mega projects

With aims of completion by 2020

According to its chairman, Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) is planning at least another 35 mega projects in the future, after already spending Dhs73 billion in upgrading services in the city

Speaking in Berlin at the International Trade Fair for Transport Technology (InnoTrans 2014), chairman and executive director of the RTA, Mattar Al Tayer, stated that work was progressing on multiple projects related to Expo 2020.

Al Tayer mentioned there were more than 35 mega projects envisioned for the UAE city, adding that the RTA will design and undertake transportation projects needed for the upcoming Expo 2020. These new plans are set to include the extension of the Red Line of the Dubai Metro, sourcing 39 additional trains, and upgrading roads and junctions surrounding and leading to the Expo site – each with aims to improve passenger services by 2020.

"The investment in the infrastructure is the key driver of the economy, investment and tourism in any city; which is why we notice that countries that haven't taken early action towards uplifting their transportation infrastructure are experiencing huge difficulties that reflect negatively on their economies," said Al Tayer.
