The world's largest IMAX cinema and an Angry Birds theme park to open at Qatar Mall
Scheduled to open by the end of 2015
Set to open by the end of the year, the gulf state will soon see the launch of a brand new entertainment centre at the Mall of Qatar, which will include a cinema with over 3,000 seats that will be the heart of the new space, according to a statement.
The mall will be home to the largest IMAX screen in the world, introducing new ground-breaking 3D laser technology to the people and visitors of Qatar, the statement added.
The new centre will be constructed on different levels and includes six exclusive VIP screens, bowling lanes and a variety of new and unique in-theatre dining options.
The Mall of Qatar has also revealed a partnership with video game developer Rovio – the company behind the highly successful 'Angry Birds' franchise – to create the world's first indoor Angry Birds Activity Park. The mall will also be host to 500 boutiques and 80 F&B outlets, as well as a five star fashion hotel featuring 210 rooms – part of the Curio Collection by Hilton.
Speaking about the project, Moutaz Al Khayyat, executive director of main contractor UCC, said, "The last mall to be delivered in Qatar was the Villaggio in 2006 – since this time, the national population has increased by over a million so we believe there is certainly the demand. Adding that, "We've gone to great efforts to make the Mall of Qatar stand out for its emphasis on family and entertainment. Even Carrefour will be creating a specially designed store which will be unique to the Middle East."
