Qatar to offer helicopter sightseeing tours
'Samana' to take to the skies
A launch event was hosted at the Gulf Helicopters HQ at the old Doha Airport recently, and marks the beginning of an altogether new way to see Qatar, as the QTA and Regency Travels company announce that they will offer unrivalled views of Qatar via its new helicopter tours.
The project was launched to help build a new tourism revenue for the country. Called 'Samana' or 'Our Skies' the service will provide tourists and residents with once-in-a-lifetime experiences, sky-high over Qatar's beautiful landscape.
"Tourism is one of the most important sectors connected with the transport and communications industries. There is a positive relationship between the two sectors. The more efficient and developed the transport sector, the more efficient and developed the tourism sector becomes," said Jassim Al Sulaiti, Minister of Transport.
The chairman of the QTA Issa bin Mohammed Al Mohannadi, added: "The importance of launching this new tourism project lies in strengthening the partnership between the public and private sectors with the aim of introducing groundbreaking tourism products that upgrade tourism and turn a visit to Qatar into an enriching and special experience by carrying out unique activities."
The Samana project is just one in a long list to boost Qatar's national tourism strategy. The country hopes to increase the ratio of visitors from its current 27 percent to 60 percent by 2030.
The Samana helicopter tours will run every Friday and Saturday, with two tours each day –the morning tour will take place from 9am to midday, and the afternoon from 3-6pm.
