The Louvre Abu Dhabi reaches another milestone with the completion of its first gallery, a year into construction

According to master developer, The Tourism Development & Investment Company (TDIC), this particular gallery was one of the largest within the project and has been completed one year after construction began. "With a transparent glass roof that allows natural light, visitors of Louvre Abu Dhabi will feel the 'rain of light' effect across most of its galleries, which comes as a result of the interlaced steel cladding dome of the museum," the developer said.

Around 20% of the dome's structure has been placed to date, with completion of its full structural frame scheduled for September 2014. The Louvre Abu Dhabi, designed by award-winning architect Jean Nouvel is scheduled for completion by Q4, 2015. The space will be a landmark in the Saadiyat Cultural District, alongside the Zayed National Museum scheduled to open in 2016, as well as the Guggenheim Abu Dhabi, which will open in 2017.

Ali Al Hammadi, deputy managing director of TDIC noted: "We're happy with where we are today. To date, more than 10 million man hours have been dedicated to Louvre Abu Dhabi reflecting the amount of foundation work that the museum requires."
