Plans unveiled for new IMAX cinema on board a superyacht
At September's Monaco Yacht Show, a variety of luxurious designs were showcased, from Fendi furnished vessels to top-deck helipads, however one of the most innovative new additions was an on-board IMAX cinema. With Yacht designer Ken Freivokh and Yacht Intelligence unveiling their unique idea of the design for an IMAX cinema to be placed in the hull of a 150 metre yacht.
The leisurely space will be called the Nemo Room and can be accessed through futuristic sliding walls instead of doors, creating a seamless space that can accommodate around 20 people (depending on the final design features). The luxurious yacht on which the first of its kind IMAX cinema will be on is currently going through design and development stages, making the final data yet to be confirmed.
What we do know is that the slick theatre room would not just be used to show the Hollywood blockbusters but could also broadcast underwater CCTV images from outside the yacht, with the underwater footage being transmitted by cameras on its exterior. The proposed curved screen would also be used for live streaming, gaming and video conferencing.
Yacht Intelligence's founder and managing director Alan Bernardi said, "We believe that IMAX Private Theatres could be integrated into yachts of over 100m as long as they're designed in at an early stage. Therefore if the existing owner opts for the cinema aboard his 150m yacht, or it's taken up by the next client, we will work to ensure none of the normal operations or spaces are adversely affected."
