Emoji app to release new skin colour modifier

It doesn't matter if you're black or white

After calls for more racially diverse emojis, Unicode Consortium – which sets the standards for emojis – has unveiled plans to release five new skin colours for the cartoon-like characters

With mostly white-coloured faces on the Emoji app, the potential release of a new skin-tone modifier will allow users to select from five different skin colours – best reflecting their own preferences at the touch of an iPhone button.

"People all over the world want to have emoji that reflect more human diversity, especially for skin tone," says a report by Google's Mark Davis and Apple's Peter Edberg. "These characters are based on the six tones of the Fitzpatrick Scale, a recognised standard for dermatology."
