Dubai metro stations to be converted into art museums
Set to be launched during Art Dubai 2015
The concept to display artworks and unique creations inside metro stations is an initiative to make art more accessible to the general public. Sheikh Mohammed revealed that the project is expected to be finished within 12 months and will be launched during Art Dubai 2015.
The first phase of the project will focus on developing the design of four key metro stations which will each showcase a specific theme. During this initial phase, four museums including a Islamic arts and Arabic Calligraphy Museum, Inventions Museum, a Contemporary Art Museum and a Visual Art Museum will be launched.
"We want to reach everyone through arts. We want creativity to reach every individual in the society. We want to inspire and communicate with every employee on his way to work, every student on his way to pursuing education and every tourist visiting Dubai," Sheikh Mohammed revealed.
The Islamic Art and Arabic Calligraphy Museum is set to feature art inspired by Islamic art and its history over 1,400 years; The Inventions Museum will focus on subjects including engineering, medicine, astronomy, mathematics, geography and many more fields; The Contemporary Art Museum will focus on contemporary art, featuring designs, paintings and graphic illustrations; meanwhile The Visual Art Museum is planned to screen documentaries and movies.
Each of the museums will feature state-of-the-art technology, as well as smart and interactive mobile applications coinciding with the Smart Dubai initiative, recently launched by Sheikh Mohammed.
