The Dubai Municipality and du made an exciting announcement at yesterday's Gitex opening as both entities signed a Memorandum of Understanding to create 'smart' beaches and parks across the city

Dubai will soon be getting Internet access across it's beautiful beaches and parks as a new WiFi iniative was launched in conjunction with the Municipality's new 'Parks and Beach' app  which provides weather, location and amenity information on the emirate's parks and beaches.

The free WiFi service is set to commence in six months, and will be available across 17 sites in total, including Mamzar Beach, Jumeirah Beach Park, Creek Park and more.

"We understand that there could be thousands of visitors on some days. The (Internet connection) speed will be fine for sure. All government applications will be 'white-listed'. That means they will open at high speed," said Abdullah Al Zaffin, the director of the IT Department at Dubai Municipality.

This isn't the first time that the Dubai Government have launched a pioneering free WiFi service, as this initiative follows the same path as the 'Smart City' project announced by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum – which saw Mohammed Bin Rashid Boulevard receiving free wireless Internet earlier this year .
