A new electric-powered transit service is announced for Downtown Dubai

Set to be operational by early next year

Spanning 7km, the region will soon see its first 'hop-on, hop-off' transit system with the Dubai Trolley, a new electric-powered transit service for Downtown Dubai

This week, Emaar has announced its new Dubai Trolley tram system in Downtown Dubai.  Covering a distance of 7km through one of the city's most up-and-coming areas, the Dubai Trolley will serve as a link between various iconic attractions in Downtown Dubai including the world's tallest building, the Burj Khalifa, and the world's most-visited retail and lifestyle destination, The Dubai Mall.

Placed along Mohammed Bin Rashid Boulevard, the first phase of Dubai Trolley – which is scheduled for completion in 2015 – will cover a distance of 1km and will have three stations to offer passengers easy access to The Dubai Mall, and The Address Downtown Dubai and the Vida Downtown Dubai.

With Downtown Dubai described as 'The Centre of Now', the Dubai Trolley will help the area's residents and visitors get around in a fun, unique way. Ahmad Al Matrooshi, managing director of Emaar Properties, said, "Dubai Trolley is a smart urban mobility service that further builds on the trolley tram systems that are in use in several cities across the US and Europe. While they were a game-changer in public transport when first invented in the 1880s by introducing a new concept to urban mobility, they are now largely used as tourist attractions."
