On Sunday, Real estate developer Damac Properties announced the development of Akoya Drive, a new shopping strip located off the Umm Suqeim Expressway in Dubai

Similar in length and facilities to The Walk at Jumeirah Beach Residences (JBR) and inspired by the iconic Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills and Champs Elysees in Paris, Akoya Drive will stretch 1.3km through the Akoya by Damac luxury golf community.

Set to be completed by 2018, the new strip will include high-end food and beverage outlets, retail shopping, and an array of family entertainment offerings, Damac said in a statement.

The luxurious space will house an outdoor ice-skating rink, cinema screen and an interactive playground for children. The strip will be longer than 13 football pitches end to end, and have more than 80,000 people living within 16km of Akoya Drive by the time it's completed.

"Akoya Drive is what everyone in Dubai has been waiting for," said Niall McLoughlin, senior vice president, Damac Properties. "We expect Akoya Drive to be the new place to meet friends, entertain and get away from it all. This new haute spot with shopping, dining and entertainment will provide a real central point for those living in Arabian Ranches, through Motor City, Jumeirah Village and the surrounding areas."

The entire Akoya community will cover an area of 42 million square feet, and will also include mansions, villas, apartments and a retail centre — with villas expected to be delivered by the end of 2015.
