London's Bond Street to undergo $32m revamp

A pricey streetlift

The iconic British street is getting its first major revamp for three decades with around $32 million aimed at transforming the historic area into a large luxury promenade

Within the next four years, Bond Street's new renovation is set to change the flow of traffic and increase pedestrian space by fifty percent.

On Tuesday, the New West End Company – which represents businesses in the area – said that Bond and New Bond Streets will be "radically" transformed with an increase in space thanks to wider pavements and a new two-way traffic system for vehicles near Brook Street.

"Bond Street is one of the strongest luxury destinations in the world," said Beverley Aspinall, managing director of Bond Street, part of the New West End Company. "Our plan will deliver significant commercial return as seen in other areas of London that have undergone a similar remodeling and investment over the last decade."
