Beyoncé, Condoleezza Rice and other influential women join the 'Ban Bossy' campaign
Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg has always criticised the negative use of the word 'bossy' to describe girls who are assertive, instead preferring the use of words such as 'feminist' or 'executive leadership skills'.
Now, Sandberg's company LeanIn.org has teamed up with an array of influential women including Beyoncé, on a 'Ban Bossy' campaign to ban the use of the word 'bossy' which can have negative effects on a girl's confidence to lead. The website is packed with stories and videos from influential women, as well as a social media campaign offering tips with the hashtag #banbossy.
"We need to recognise the many ways we systematically discourage leadership in girls from a young age - and instead, we need to encourage them," Sandberg said in a statement adding, "So the next time you have the urge to call your little girl bossy? Take a deep breath and praise her leadership skills instead."
