New York's luxe Asian lounge restaurant: TAO
A gastronomic playground has opened its gates
In the heart of Manhattan's Meatpacking District, a new gastronomic playground has opened its gates. At 6,500 square metres on the corner of the first floor of the Maritime Hotel, you'll find the restaurant and luxe nightlife lounge, TAO Downtown.
The design here is super theatrical: think Buddha statues, giant oriental vases, fountains and pavilions that could be a part of a film production based in the Far East.
Dim sum, plus rare dishes devised by owner of the TAO Restaurant Group, Rich Wolfe, and Chef Ralph Skamerdella, are based on their own experiences in Asia. During a short trip to Hong Kong, for example, Skamerdella came across a dish called 'Snapper in Sand' – grilled fish, breaded with crushed peanuts that is now a TAO signature.
The interior space is divided into several zones. A cozy main hall can accommodate about 200 people, with a private "Sky Box" room for around 100, if you're feeling fnacy.
TAO Downtown is located at 92 Ninth Avenue, New York.
