Unveiled: Expo 2020 Dubai's Al Wasl Plaza
Organisers of Expo 2020 have just unveiled the final building to be constructed at Dubai South: the Al Wasl Plaza. Designed by Adrian Smith and Gordon Gill Architecture (AS+GG), the plaza measures 150 metres in diametre and was developed to be the focal point during the expo. Connecting the three main districts – Opportunity, Sustainability and Mobility – as well as the UAE Pavilion and the Dubai Metro, Al Wasl Plaza is a state-of-the-art piece of architecture complete with large-scale projection facilities within the covered outdoor hub.
"Expo 2020 Dubai will be an exceptional, unmissable and breathtaking global destination, and we feel Al Wasl Plaza embodies that vision," said Gordon Gill, Design Partner at AS+GG. "We are creating a space that will be an architectural landmark not just for the six months of expo but long into the future. We want Al Wasl Plaza, with its cutting-edge design, to inspire not just our generation but many generations to come."
