Buro 24/7 Exclusive: Bottega Veneta's Tomas Maier's crusade to protect Japanese Modernism Architecture
An exclusive video message from the creative director
Buro 24/7 Middle East are among a very small handful of publications worldwide this morning to exclusively present this important message from Tomas Maier – Bottega Veneta's creative director.
Maier's passion for architecture has led him to join and support an important cause: Raising awareness for the Japanese modernism architecture buildings in Japan, which are at risk of being demolished or changed beyond recognition to leave space for new buildings for the upcoming Olympic games.
The Bottega Veneta creative recently travelled to Japan to visit some of the buildings that risk being destroyed, starting with the beautiful Hotel Okura in Tokyo. The trip moved the German-born 57-year-old to seek action, and he decided to use his voice to tell people how important it is to protect our history and background.
It's a sad situation, and not just for architecture enthusiasts like Maier, but for all mankind – because without further consideration taken for these cultural landmarks, the beauty and mastery they reflect will be lost forever, and not shared with generations to come.
