Heatherwick Studio has recently unveiled images of Al Fayah Park, a proposed 125,000 square metre public space in Abu Dhabi that will begin construction by the end of this year

Developed by the Salama bint Hamdan Al Nahyan Foundation, the futuristic Al Fayah Park in Abu Dhabi will be located under a 20 metre-high sand-coloured canopy, and will house underneath it a public library, picnic areas, an outdoor cinema and mosque. The community spaces will also host live performances and local festivals.

The foundation selected London-based Thomas Heatherwick and his studio to design the park with construction expected to begin by the end of 2014 and completion in 2017.

Once completed, the impressive oasis will supply fresh fruits and vegetables to local eateries. It will also feature play areas, exercise paths and showcase flowers and plants native to the Arabian Gulf region.

Designed to be the latest attraction for residents and international visitors, Al Fayah Park is among the many initiatives to develop outdoor public spaces in the UAE capital.
