British design firm builds on-ice restaurant in Canada
Known for designing lightweight and versatile structures, OS31 has unveiled its newest project, the RAW:almond, a new restaurant that will be open as part of Winnipeg's annual Winter festival. Claiming the title of the "first ever outdoor fine dining restaurant on a frozen body of water", the Canadian eatery will open on January 22, 2015.
"The design creates an expressive frame that floats across the ice like a frozen jetty, whilst providing a dining experience that is clear from structure," said studio founder Tony Broomhead. "The exterior and interior are expressed as separate forms, one enclosed inside the other."
