Muji designs a compact vertical house in Tokyo

Taking architecture to new heights

Japanese retail company Muji has designed a home for the city residents’ in mind – inspired by its minimal roots of making good use of small spaces

Using natural light and sectioned floors, the three-storey home maximises living space and makes functions of daily life much easier due to unique furnishings and easily accessible rooms.

The house is free of internal walls or doors, as each room connects with one another. The storage area is connected to the utility room, and the dining room with the kitchen while the living room is positioned next to a north-facing window.

Due to its cramped Tokyo location – positioned between two houses– the Muji space takes on a linear and vertical façade that is similar to the design aesthetic seen in its home products.
