Birds, giraffes and rabbits make up an eclectic mix of art and design by fashion label Marni, set to go on show at Salone di Mobile this year

Italian powerhouse Marni will unveil an exotic and vibrant furniture installation as part of Milan Design Week, built around the Salone del Mobile fair that launches next week.

Entitled 'Animal House', the concept is comprised of a series of limited edition pieces which draw inspiration from giraffes, flamingoes and rabbits. The festive designs feature strong colour schemes and bold materials such as metal and PVC...

The range includes classic chairs, chairs with one-sided armrests, rocking chairs, small benches and tables – and asymmetry is one of the principal themes of the collection.

Each unique piece was handmade by a group of female Colombian workers as part of a sustainable work initiative, with a portion of the proceeds being donated to charities which help terminally ill children, and the works reflect a certain freedom to mix and match – something that stays within signature characteristics of the Marni brand, which celebrates its 20th anniversary this year.

Salone del Mobile runs April 8–13
