Kengo Kuma to develop Chinese luxury hotel
The hills are alive
The new development features a number of private villas that nestle in the hillside and overlook the rolling valleys below, in addition to providing top of the line pool and spa facilities.
The project also shows a deliberate link to the neighbouring Yunnan Sales Center; also designed by Kuma; as its features similarly consist of timber and semi opaque cladding. However, the two structures contrast as the 10,000 sq. meter hotel complex extends through the surrounding landscape in a sequence of adjoining sections.
The pool serves as the dividing and uniting factor, as it weaves and stretches through the two structures, while the internal compositions configure around an enclosed courtyard, and comprise of leisure and recreational facilities, while offering scenic views of the Chinese countryside.
The architect's signature style is apparent in the furnishings such as the layered slats of the restaurant bar, while other interiors correspond with the roof's angled design with tables and chairs constructed from timber and glass.
