Commissioned by a celebrated photographer, this unique camera-inspired structure was designed to maximise the beauty of its surroundings

Set amongst breathtaking scenery of an unused quarry in Pontypridd, in Wales, England, the structure developed by Hyde+Hyde Architects has been created to imitate the shape of a camera obscura. The design features aim to collect light from the basin, while offering mesmerising views out of the floor-to-ceiling windows.

The house has been developed in line with contemporary eco standards, which include a heat recovery system combined with insulated structural panels on the walls - resulting in a powerful amount of air tightness and thermal efficiency.
