Helmut Lang Rugs - A New Collaboration with Henzel Studios
Trending: Art rugs
Sneaking out of his retirement Helmut Lang is collaborating with Henzel Studios, a luxury rug studio based in Gothenburg. The Austrian designer is set to create a line of rugs using designs from a dozen prominent artists including himself, Richard Prince, Jack Pierson, Marilyn Minter, Juergen Teller, Anselm Reyle, Leo Gabin, Robert Knoke, Mickalene Thomas and more.
Art rugs are really trending right now - Calle Henzel, creative director of the studio explains "Some of the most prominent artists including Pablo Picasso, Francis Bacon and Louise Bourgeois have at some point in their careers turned their hand to rug design," he said. "Given that it is applied art as opposed to fine art, there is the possibility to treat the rugs as art hung onto the wall or merely for their intended purpose."
The project is being directed by Joakim Andreasson, who has worked on most of Helmuts art projects before joining cultureEDIT. The collection is set to debut in New York during the Frieze Art Fair from May 9 - 12 2014, in Randall's Island Park in Manhattan.
