Emirati designer Khalid Shafar announces collaboration with the Fowler Museum in Los Angeles
With 'Fallen Palm'
Emirati designer and artist Khalid Shafar will be exhibiting in the Past Forward exhibition at the Fowler Museum at UCLA this month. Shafar, a Buro 24/7 favourite, has included his Fallen Palm bench in the exhibition, which is billed as a conversation about contemporary art and design from the Emirates, the first touring exhibition of its kind from the region.
Fallen Palm, is a stunning piece of work from the interiors driven designer, that resembles, as the name would suggest, a fallen palm tree, repurposed as a bench. Actually crafted from ash and walnut wood the bench has metal legs and local goat hair upholstery.
Joining Fallen Palm are works from 24 other leading Emirati artists who have submitted a mixture of different art-forms that include photographs, sculptures and video installations. The exhibition has been meticulously co-curated by Noor Al Suwaidi and Curtis Sandberg, Senior Vice President for Arts and Cultural Programs at the Meridian International Center.
As well as exhibiting, Khalid Shafar will join Shaikha Al Mazrou as the leading voices on a panel discussion about contemporary life and the emerging art scene, which takes place on January 25, and promises to offer insightful thoughts and perspectives.
