Student redesigns American bank notes to celebrate science
Show me the money
For student Travis Purrington's master thesis project he decided to follow in the image-led European currencies such as the Euro or Swedish krona and transform US dollars into something a little more artistic.
On each banknote is one side featuring a drawing of scientific subject matter, with a colourful, real-world depiction on the other side. The $5 note (above) portrays neurons on one side and modern farming fields on the other, a representation of science and human ingenuity.
With a focus on, "themes of scientific and global systems central to human society", Purrington hopes to emphasise humanity as a whole collective than on the current dollar bills.
