Toyota's 3-wheeled i-Road debuts in Europe

Zero-emission fun

After unveiling the i-Road at last year’s Geneva Motor Show, shocking the motor world with its ‘active lean technology', Toyota’s fully-enclosed, two-seater, three-wheeled vehicle is now taking part in an electric-ride sharing programme

Toyota's i-Ride is the company's take on a zero emissions future and is debuting in Europe at the Ha:mo programme, which is a pick up and drop off system that was first tested in Japan, and now the same service will be offered in Grenoble, France. Alongside the futuristic i-Road, the programme will also include Toyota's four-wheeled COMS vehicle, with 35 of each model taking to the French streets.

According to Toyota, the new zero-emission vehicles - the i-Road and COMS - are nearly the same size as a motorbike or scooter and will help build a more integrated public transport service. To use the cars, people in the French city can use a dedicated smartphone app to reserve and pay to rent an i-Road, pick it up and drive around and then leave it charging in one of Toyota's designated spots for the next person to use it.
